Opera Mini for Windows Phone 8 Updated; UI Overhaul

Opera Mini Beta, one of only a few third party web browsers available on Windows Phone 8 has received an update which brings an improved visual layout compared to the last version that dated back to Opera Mini as seen on Symbian.

The latest update is build number, and while it does have a more modern look and feel about it there are still a few issues preventing me from using as my first choice mobile browser. Firstly it only works in portrait mode, no support for viewing web pages in landscape. Also there is no option for viewing pages in “desktop” mode, only mobile websites, which is understandable considering the whole point of Opera Mini is to save data usage. My final issue is that there is no full screen option, the address bar at the top of the screen is always present and the option bar at the bottom also doesn’t hide itself.

One area however where I am impressed with Opera Mini is watching YouTube videos on m.youtube.com. The video streams appear better than what Internet Explorer 11 offers, see the comparison picture below, Opera is the above screen shot while IE is below.
