BBC iPlayer Updated for Windows Phone 8, More Coming Soon

The BBC iPlayer app for Windows Phone 8 has received a much needed update, bringing a new lay out and improved playback, including live TV streaming.

This latest version of the app, 1.3.0 does see the Radio programs removed, but according to the Window Phone Store, a separate app, BBC iPlayer Radio, will be available soon.

Here is the feature list from the Store:

Watch TV programmes live and on-demand with the BBC iPlayer app.
Designed for the best viewing experience, the latest version lets you:

– Watch live and on demand over Wi-Fi, 4G and 3G;
– Enjoy smoother viewing with less buffering;
– Browse new channel pages, themed programme collections and clearer categories;
– Keep track of programmes you love by adding them to your favourites;
– Access subtitles.

To focus on the best viewing experience, we’ve removed radio from the latest BBC iPlayer app. But look out for the BBC iPlayer Radio app coming soon!

The iPlayer app, originally released for Windows Phone 8 back in 2013, is still lacking features available on iOS and Android, like downloading for offline viewing and HD playback, but it is good to see some attention paid to Windows Phone by the BBC, and more features are expected to arrive in the near future.
