One of the things that I was really hoping with the Windows Phone 8.1 update was a small, but quite important feature that would change the way I (and probably many others out there) use my Lumia handset on a daily basis.
The fact is that ever since Windows Phone 7, the tiny white cellular, wifi, and battery icons slink upwards and out of sight, causing the user to have to do a tap on the very top of the screen to see what their battery status is, or how many bars they have, or whether they are in a 3G or LTE area. It has driven me nuts since Day 1.
Thankfully, the ever-trustworthy Daniel Rubino over at WPCentral has confirmed with me via Twitter that this will now be implemented as part of WP 8.1. So even when scrolling down your Start screen, this information will not disappear out of sight.

A small, but mighty improvement if you ask me!

Can’t wait to get my hands on 8.1 which I think will come (as the Developer Preview anyway) next Tuesday. Why then? It came to me in a dream! haha 🙂
Its a huge update, and aside from the app argument which is also fading, its at same level as any os’s with superior camera abilities.

Cheers Chris, and oh yes, I’m all set for the DP! Got the app, signed up, can’t flipping wait!! Will be posting a few words and pics once it comes through! :^) You?
Yes, i’m signed up for the dev preview. Some awesome stuff coming with that by the look of things. Hopefully the Podcast app will be as good as it used to be on WP7.5 with Zune.
I’m very happy with Podcast Lounge, but I am dreaming of WordFlow and having 3 medium tiles per row, really looking forward to all the update will bring. Then again in the summer with Nokia Cyan so my FitBit will sync too. Pretty much PERFECTION. :^)
It doesn’t bother me and I actually quite like the screen with minimal information on it.
One thing I think would improve things, but I’m not expecting it, is in the browser, the address bar disappearing so you can have full screen web browsing like IE 10/11 on Windows 8 (Modern style). Hopefully one day.
Glad you are happy Andy, will you get the Dev Preview?
