When the Nokia Lumia 1020 was announced back in July, two accessories (wireless charging plate and Camera grip) were also introduced to accompany the 41 MP Zeiss optics flagship imaging Nokia device. Unlike the Lumia 920, the Lumia 1020 doesn’t have built in wireless charging, something I have grown accustomed to.
The CC3066, wireless charging case, was showcased during the Zoom Reinvented event and here’s a link to Andrew Creswell’s demonstration. The CC3066 comes in two distinctive colors (yellow and black ). It easily snaps onto the Lumia 1020, similar to the wireless charging case for the Lumia 925(CC3065). I think it gives extra protection to the Lumia 1020 or Lumia 925 and in my opinion makes it feel complete. The charging plate is very light and doesn’t add a lot of weight to the Lumia 1020.
How does it work?
You will see two charging connectors on the back of the Lumia 1020 that is used to connect to two pins on the charging cover. After the device with charging cover onto a wireless charging plate, you will hear the distinctive charging sound and let your device juice up without needing to plug into a micro USB cable.
In order to be able to use the wireless charging functionality, you must have the Nokia Qi wireless charging plate DT900, JBL x Nokia PowerUp or a third party Qi wireless enabled charging plate by Energizer.
I find having to switch between the charging plate and the camera grip a bit troublesome but since I don’t use the camera grip often, I leave the charging case on my Lumia 1020 and use it as a protective cover.
I would like to thank the folks at Mobilefun for sending the review unit and head over to Mobilefun.com to purchase the CC3066 for your Lumia 1020 or any original Nokia accessories.
