If you’re in the United States and you’re after some Jolla phone action, then right now, you can sign-up on their website to ‘pre-book’ a Jolla phone for free. For free? Well, all you’re doing here is putting your name on a list, a bit like giving your name to the maitre’d at your favorite brunch place and waiting to hear it called out so you can eat.
With this registration on Jolla’s website, you are showing support for the Sailfish-running OS, but this does not guarantee delivery to your country, even if you are willing and able to stump up the full price of €399 (about $525 US) at the end of 2013 when the device is supposed to ship.
From their Terms and Conditions page:
In case of some products we might not be able to ship the product to all countries. You will be informed of any territorial restrictions before you will purchase the product.
Obviously, any mobile device has to pass FCC checks, so we’ll have to see, but I don’t think we’ll have too many problems seeing as a lot of non-US carrier devices are available through the ‘grey market’.
I’ve managed to opt for the €100 pre-book option (this guarantees delivery and €100 off the total cost of the device) by using an address in the UK, so I will be able to get the Jolla phone even if it doesn’t ship to the States, so there’ll certainly be at least one member of the Nokia Innovation team who will have one!
The pre-book registration is totally free and there is no obligation to buy a Jolla phone, so go ahead and show some American support – it will help Jolla to decide if shipping to the US is worth the effort, and we hope it will!
