Despite Nokia blowing hard on the Lumia trumpets, Symbian is still making some noise, albeit much quieter these days. Steve Litchfield over at AllAboutSymbian.com has reported that a new wave of homescreen widgets has been released for all Nokia’s Symbian Belle FP1 and FP2 devices. That would be the 808 PureView, the Nokia 700, 701 and 603, I believe.
The widgets look swish and pack more functionality. For example the ‘small contact’ widgets now have two tiny buttons on them, so instead of pressing the widget and then selecting text message within that contact’s info screen, you can now just press the message icon on the widget and go straight to the messaging screen to send that person an SMS. Maybe to tell them that you have a new widget for them? They’d love that.
Other new widgets that have been released are a stopwatch, a proper release of Webview to see a live tile (as it were) of a webpage, a flashlight toggle switch for the LED light, and a Mirror widget to quickly turn on the front facing camera so you can check that nobody has written ‘Loser’ on your forehead while you took that nap at the office. (Happens to me ALL the time).
Thanks to Nokia and Accenture for continuing to produce these minor updates to our beloved Symbian. Keep ’em comin’! :^)
