While talking to All Things D corporate vice president of the Windows Phone Division, Terry Myerson told them that there is not a Surface phone coming and that Microsoft has no need to get into the hardware business.
It would have to be something where Nokia or HTC was not providing the consumer experience we think is possible with our platform.” He doesn’t see a need for Microsoft to get into the phone hardware business.
It is also to be noted that the 200 million Windows Phone units shipped is share goal between Microsoft and Nokia. Plus he hinted that Nokia has some killer Windows Phone devices coming soon.
Our partnership with our current hardware partners, it’s actually going quite well. No one hears about the progress in Poland or Mexico or Italy. For where we’re at right now, the focus is to really get to 200 million phones a year through the current model….Not only the handsets that have shipped so far, but the handsets that are coming soon. I’m incredibly proud of the work they’ve done. Nokia is a “great partner” for Microsoft.”
This is great news if you are Nokia knowing that your biggest partner in business is not going to undercut your sales with a device of their own and also that Microsoft is still 100% committed to making Windows Phone a huge success.
