Today, Nokia announced a new mapping service that will work across platforms called “HERE”. Along with strategic partnership with Mozilla to bring locations services to Firefox, Nokia is also introducing the brand HERE to iOS and Android users. The iOS app will be based on HTML5 technology and will allow iOS users to run mapping services such as voice guided walking navigation, public transit mapping, and can be used offline. An app has also been submitted to iTunes pending approval from Apple. Moreover, Nokia is focusing on improving it’s 3D mapping capability by acquiring Earthmine, a Berkeley California based company to compete headon with the likes of Google Street View.
