If you just got yourself a Nokia N9 congratulations! You now have
Heaven in your hand. MeeGo in your hand and clearly have ripped yourself away from playing with long enough to read this post so good for you!
You may be wondering at this point now what? How do I make the best phone on the planet even better? Well I am glad you asked I will share you the apps that make my N9 the bestest phone in the land! (That’s right I said bestest..I know it’s not a word and I really don’t care. So there!)
First you will want to update to ver PR 1.2. You may be wondering if you have this yet…easiest way to find out is to go to “settings” than down to “About Product” 2nd line should say Version PR1.2. If it doesn’t say this simply Go “Settings” /”applications”/” Manage Applications” hit the update button, than the refresh button up top.
Here are my list of must have apps
MeeScan: This will make your life easier for installing the everything else it will let you scan 2D barcodes on your computer screen, which in turn will point your browser right to that app in the Nokia Store.
Home Screen Settings: This will unlock your homescreen so you can use both the portrait and the landscape for all your homescreens. Plus it allows you change your background on your homescreens.
SwipeManager: This is a handy app that will let you control the action of your N9 when you swipe in a direction. You now control were your phone goes next when you swipe away an app.
Shortcuts: Shortcuts allows you to change the Quick-launch shortcuts on your Nokia N9. With a simple drag-and-drop interface, you can drag icons to the shortcut bar and apply the results instantly.
Contact Launcher: A simple utility that allows you to add contacts to your N9 application launcher screen for quick access. Creates squircles either for opening the contact card or directly dialing.
Phone Torch: Simply put it makes your N9 a Flashlight.
ShotMee: This one perhaps just for us tech geeks Launch this screenshot utility, minimize it, and take screenshots by double-tapping your phone from either right or left side. Screenshots will be saved directly to the Gallery. Tap the notification banner to open the screenshot so you can share it right away.
QNeptunea: This is simply THE BEST Twitter client for the N9 out there right now it’s not in the Nokia Store you can download it here. You MUST Flip a switch to install it. Go “Settings” “Applications” “Installations” than flip the “Allow installations from non-Store sources switch.” I know it sound like a pain in the butt for a Twitter client but it’s worth…trust me.
Volume+ as Camera button: This simply turns your volume button into a shutter button. I hate not having to push the button on my screen to take a picture. This app is perfect for people like me.
Calendar Feed: Calendar events at Feed screen as one topmost item. This truly makes your Feed Screen an all at once glanceable feed for your life.
There are games that are great to but….I feel games are more of personal preference. The apps mentioned above merely tweak the N9/MeeGo with the options that should have been built into MeeGo there by making your N9 “the bestest phone in the land!”
