They say a picture is worth a thousand words, will this one is worth millions. Up top there is a graph showing “Cumulative Sales” worldwide since 2007. (iPhone was released June 29, 2007) That big shaded blue area is the Symbian platform and everything else well isn’t. (Note Symbian has sold nearly 200 MILLION more phones than the next nearest OS)
This may come to shock to some of you who was tricked by the media in thinking no one has bought a Symbian phone since iOS and Android had come out. This is also relevant information because if you bought a Symbian (Nokia) phone in 2007 there is a good chance that someone is still using it today.
The take away here is, if you have a Symbian phone not only will you get support till “at least 2016” but more importantly with all these handsets out there developers will still continue to make apps for you. They go where the money is…and the money is with Symbian and the worlds largest installed OS base. So if you were looking at Nokia 603, 700, 701 etc… and didn’t want to buy a “dead platform” don’t be afraid Symbian still has plenty of life left in it!
