I find being able to take screen-shots on my Nokia N8 extremely useful. Here’s an actual real world example of how I used the Best Screen Snap app on my N8.
I was waiting for my girlfriend outside Starbucks. Someone came up to me and asked for directions. I noticed he had a smartphone, and it wasn’t a Nokia smartphone. He had the tools on his smartphone to help him get to where he was going, but he was fumbling and clearly wasn’t comfortable with his Android phone. I asked him where he was going. I opened Ovi Maps. GPS located my position. I asked him for the address of his destination, and entered that into my N8. Ovi Maps plotted a walking route. I long-pressed the menu button to get back to my homescreen. I opened up screen-capture, and took a picture of the Ovi-Map page and asked for his email address. Probably because I look trustworthy (?) he gave it to me. I emailed him the Ovi Map screen capture image which clearly showed where and how to get to his destination. This total stranger was not only impressed with how quickly I was able to get him the information he needed to get to his destination, but was maybe surprised with how nice I was? Not all New Yorkers are rude and unfriendly!
To use the screen capture program, you have to be comfortable with multi-tasking on the N8. If you’ve owned a N8 for more than a few days then you probably know that by long pressing the menu button on the N8 that you open up the multi-tasking screen which shows which apps are open. You can easily scroll between open applications and can go directly to an app by touching the card, or by tapping “X” to close the app or open process.
After launching the Screen Capture application you will see this screen.
The next thing you need to do is to set the delay. I set mine for 10 seconds. You can also set your image-type, and where you want image saved.
To initiate a screen capture, you tap “Options” and select “Capture now “.
I then long press the menu button to get to the screen I want captured, and wait.
After 10 seconds, you will hear a click, and the screen capture image will be saved in your images folder. Opening up photos, you’ll see the captured screen image. Long pressing the image I have the option to send the picture to friends. It is easy once you get used to it.
You can download the Best Screen Snap application for free from the Ovi Store.
