Nokia Appoints New President and CEO Ex Microsoft Exec Stephen Elop

Amid the Nokia World event in the next week, this move was not expected from Nokia as the current CEO Olli Pekka Kallasvuo will have a keynote presentation at the Nokia World Event.

There has been rumors in the past months of Nokia planning to replace the current CEO Kallasvuo, which Nokia and Kallasvuo dismissed.

Now it has finally happened..

Official Press Release

Former Microsoft Executive Stephen Elop is going to be the new President and CEO of Nokia starting September 21, 2010.

So many questions needs to be answered..

Is Stephen Elop fit for this job?

I assume so as Nokia Chairman of the Board Jorma Ollila said this.

“The time is right to accelerate the company’s renewal; to bring in new executive leadership with different skills and strengths in order to drive company success. The Nokia Board believes that Stephen has the right industry experience and leadership skills to realize the full potential of Nokia. His strong software background and proven record in change management will be valuable assets as we press harder to complete the transformation of the company. We believe that Stephen will be able to drive both innovation and efficient execution of the company strategy in order to deliver increased value to our shareholders,”

Was this the right move for Nokia?

All I know is Mr Elop will be challenged with this job in bringing back Nokia where it use to be. Lets not forget the challenge of bringing Presence here in North America.

Well Good luck to him.. and Welcome to Nokia!

Let us know your opinion about this move.
