Three Days Ago Nov 11, 2008 I attended this Howard Forum S60 Meet up NYC that was organized by one of the member William Sisti “aka” Flyinace2000.
What’s good about it was with the help of Nokia S60’s own Raj Unny, William had managed to book us a special meet up at the Nokia Flagship Store NYC.
Too bad William couldn’t make due to the loss of his grandmother. (“We offer our condolences Will”)
Well anyways due to the success of this Meet up, we plan to do this at least once a month and surprisingly William had already book us the next meet up for next month December and again Thank to the kindness of the staff at the Nokia Store for giving us time and space to celebrate our meet ups.
You can find more information by clicking here.
Well anyways.. The good thing about the meet up was we were able to play with the new Nokia phones that were not out yet.
Like for example.. The Nokia 5800 Xpress Music which is the controversial iPhone like touchscreen phone of Nokia, which carries the new version of Nokia S60 5th Edition.
Also was available for us was the Nokia N85 and the Nokia N79, In which I developed a special bond with the N79. (I will explain that a little later.)
Now lets talk about the Highly Anticipated Nokia 5800 Xpress Music.
In my opinion.. I think this device has a lot of potential, even if I don’t agree with Nokia on following the suit of Apple iPhone. Nokia has always found its success on its devices with tactile feedback “aka” keypads.
Well Anyways Let me share you guys the 5800XM photos that I took at the Nokia Store..
I really like the touch sensitivity of the Nokia 5800XM compare to the iPhone.. For some reason the 5800XM is just so accurate when you touch it. It even gives you a little vibrate when you touch the screen. Pretty Awesome Experience!!
The 5800XM was surprisingly small and so light, it did not even feel that it has battery inside. The exterior material really felt plasticky and it was such a fingerprint magnet.
The New S60 keys were so confusing.. I felt like an S60 noob when I was trying to operate the device. The brightness of the screen was indeed awesome!! Such a High Def screen..
The Camera quality was surprisingly superb too I did not expect to get a good quality, due to the Pre production Firmware and 3.2MP only. I really don’t know, maybe the high def screen is fooling me. But it is indeed a small device if you look at my fingers on it.
The real deal on this device in my opinion is the Video Playback.. It plays the video smooth and crisp HD quality..
Here is a comparison shot of the 5800XM to the HTC TILT. As you can see on the photo the TILT was raised and clearly showing the thinnest of the 5800XM.
For the Nokia 5800XM’s price point.. It is definitely a steal/bargain for its quality and features!! Estimated to be priced $350 USD.
Anyways Let me go back to where I left off regarding the new found bond I develop with the Nokia N79.
Alright!! You all know my love on Bar Phones.. E71 is bar and I love it!! N82 is a bar phone I truly love it and if only it has US 3G. The N78 came out with US 3G I was going to buy it, but lost interest on the weird keypad implementation. Now Nokia has finally nailed it and granted my wish on the N79.
Silver Shiny Trim
Awesome Keypad layout
Very simple design
5MP camera with cover
Featured Pack 2
What else can I ask for? Its a perfect device for me, and its a must have.. Come next year when it becomes available for the US.
Well Anyhow.. I hope my post didn’t put you to complete boredom.. I hope you like my 1st impression on the Nokia 5800 Xpress Music.
Let me know what you think? Do you like Nokia’s approach on Touch Screen phones?
Like always.. gwapz signing off…
